HDP should have distanced itself from the bomber
The bomb attack in the heart of Ankara that left 29 dead was the work of a Kurdish extremist terrorist group affiliated with the PKK and Syria's Democratic Union Party (PYD). A fringe group of the PKK called the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK) claimed responsibility for the attack but that hardly fooled anyone.
The Kurdish nationalist Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş condemned the attack along with all the other political leaders but then everything his party did since then has shown that they wholeheartedly supported this attack.
The HDP is completely on the wrong track and its attitude will only bring disaster to the party and its leadership if they continue on this course.
Soon after the bombing the HDP refused to join the other parties in condemning the attack in a joint parliamentary motion simply because the Kurdish nationalists wanted the motion to contain phrases that mentioned the current fighting in southeastern cities and towns where the Turkish security forces are fighting secessionist PKK terrorists who have tried to declare their own autonomous Kurdish enclaves.
This incident showed mainstream Turks that the HDP does not want to be an integral part of the Turkish political system and prefers to act as the militant political extension of the PKK terrorist group in Parliament. For years we who cherish the fraternal bonds between Turks and Kurds and who were called Kurdish activists in the 2000s and 1990s have been telling everyone that the Kurds should be given the chance of being represented in the political process in this country and that this is the only way to convince the Kurdish militants that you can only achieve your goals by participating in the political process and not by fighting a terrorist war from the mountains of eastern and southeastern Turkey.
However, we have been sadly let down. The Kurdish militants did come and take their place in Parliament pretending that they had become a mainstream political party aimed at serving the whole people of this country and yet they proved they had an agenda to follow a Kurdish nationalist goals of secession and they actively supported the PKK terrorists pretending that they were under pressure from the PKK. Some claimed the PKK was humiliating the HDP and thus the politicians could not raise their voices against the extremists. Yet we see that the HDP crowd are more than willing to tag along with the PKK.
The PKK and PYD joint terrorist attack in Ankara was the work of a militant who posed as a migrant. What is sad is that the PKK opened a condolences home for the terrorist attacker where posters of the PKK were displayed and a HDP deputy visited the house to convey his condolences. Condolences for a terrorist who killed 29 people.
Such acts and gestures only deepen the mistrust Turks have in the Kurds. Many people question how a terrorist who has the blood of so many innocent people on his hands can be treated like a hero. The HDP people are progressively antagonizing and provoking the ordinary Turk in the street with such behavior. Such behavior is unacceptable. Not only the Turks, but also those who have made great efforts in the past to preserve fraternal bonds between Turks and Kurds but also sensible Kurds of Turkey who see this meaningless charade, have to tell the HDP to stop this kind of behavior and serve reconciliation.
