Turkey is going through a tough period when we are obliged to close our ranks as a nation with our Turks and Kurds and all other ethnic groups and face the challenges that are being posed to our unity and solidarity.

Suicide bombers are at work in the streets of Ankara and Istanbul. PKK terrorists have tried an uprising in many of our cities and townships in southeastern Anatolia. People have been left homeless as a result of the fighting between secessionist PKK terrorists and Turkish security forces.

On Saturday Istanbul was the target of a suicide bomber that left five dead and 35 wounded. Some of the victims were foreign guests visiting our country.

So there is little to rejoice and much to lament and mourn. While all this is happening you would expect the Kurdish political movement represented in Parliament to act with utmost care and responsibility and yet we see the Kurdish nationalist Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) trying to pour fuel over the fire instead of trying to put it out.

HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş is not only insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and the state everyday, but he is actively encouraging the Kurds of Turkey to take part in a Kurdish secessionist drive similar to that experienced in northern Syria.

A deputy from the HDP has the audacity to visit the condolence home of a suicide bomber who recently killed dozens of people in the heart of Ankara. This is a naked act of provocation.

Two other HDP deputies have the audacity to participate the in the funeral of a terrorist leader killed by security forces in the Sur township of southeastern Diyarbakır province and voice their open support to the secessionist campaign of the PKK and proclaim they will continue to "march on the path" of the dead terrorist leader. This too is a naked act of provocation...

The Kurds of Turkey have been using the Nevruz (the festivity that marks the start of spring and which is regarded as a New Year in the Middle East and southwest Asia) as a day to challenge the Turkish state and the PKK has used it to promote the secessionist movement.

Yes Nevruz has a special place for Kurds and the Turks as well as for the people of the Middle East. It is a special occasion where we celebrate the advent of spring and rejoice the wonderful offerings of nature.

However, in view of these adverse developments in Turkey, shouldn't we all skip the festivities and use the occasion to pay our respects to the victims of the current terrorist campaign in Turkey?

Yet we see that the PKK and its sympathizers are trying to instigate more violence in our streets with the pretense of marking Nevruz.

Turks sincerely and actively mourned the victims of the recent DAESH bombing in Ankara near the train station that targeted mainly our Kurdish citizens preparing to attend a rally. So shouldn't the Kurds of Turkey display the same sensitivities as our nation has so much to mourn these days?

If we are one and want to remain as one, then people are obliged to respect the sensitivities of each other. We unfortunately see that the PKK-manipulated HDP is not at all on this wavelength. Is this how we hope to live together?

The HDP crowd have to see that the patience and tolerance displayed toward them by the Turkish people is running out...
