Brits are hurting Turkey and Turks

The British should debate real issues on why they do not want to be a part of the EU and what they intend to do about a united Europe

The British will decide on June 23 in a referendum whether or not to pull out of the European Union. The latest public opinion polls show that the verdict will be touch and go and could swing either way. The latest surveys say between 52 percent to 53 percent want to pull out of the EU.While all this is happening, Britain has suffered an unprecedented campaign setback as a lone killer who opposes the EU attacked and murdered British Labour Deputy Jo Cox during a campaign tour.A 'Vote Remain' sign urging people to avoid a Brexit in the upcoming EU referendum on the roadside near Charing south east of London.Of course, Britons have a right to decide whether or not they want to stay in the EU. The U.K. is not in the eurozone and is not part of the Schengen region free movement deal. Yet it, too, contributes to the aid process where rich EU countries aid poorer members. The U.K., too, is a part of the sluggish EU system that has become even more complicated with the arrival of new members.Yet we see that the main reason why those who oppose EU membership is because they say it only creates migrants and foreign asylum seekers to flood into Britain. Those who support the anti-EU campaign, or Brexit, have unfortunately used Turkey as an excuse. We strongly oppose this.A 'Vote Leave' sign by the roadside near Tunbridge Wells urging to vote to leave the EU in the upcoming referendum, London. Those who support a Brexit claim once Turkey becomes a member of the EU, Turks will flood to Britain. They also say that lifting the Schengen visa restrictions for Turks will also create a similar movement of Turks to the United Kingdom. What is worse, they claim Turkey's entry into the EU has gained speed and that Turkey will soon become a full member.Do these people live in another galaxy? Do they not see that whoever is feeding them all this propaganda is simply lying? When and if the visa restriction is lifted, Turks cannot flood Britain simply because the restrictions cover the Schengen zone and not Britain. Turkish citizens need a separate visa to enter the U.K.If and when Turkey enters the EU, Turks will not flood Britain or any other part of the EU simply because many Turks see that in a decaying Europe they are much better off at home. The reason we want the visa restrictions lifted is for business purposes and for tourism reasons. No one wants to set roots in Europe. Then when you talk of the business of full membership, this is the greatest lie, which seems like a big joke. Turkey's full membership is nowhere near, let alone imminent. The EU is toying around with Turkey and there are no prospects that Turkey will become an EU members in the foreseeable future. On the contrary, the EU is creating more and more excuses, new conditions and is just toying with us.Britain was supposed to support Turkey's EU membership, and yet even Prime Minister David Cameron is on record saying Turkey will not be an EU member until the year 3000. Just think of the attitude of EU leaders who do not want to allow Turkey into the EU.Of course we are offended when the British spread lies and follow a campaign at our expense. The British should debate real issues on why they do not want to be a part of the EU and what they intend to do about a united Europe. For our part, we should sit down and face the facts. We will not be a member to the EU no matter what we do. Why not chart a new and more viable course for ourselves?
