Does Germany gain from enmity toward Turkey?

This is a strange world. The Germans repeatedly talk about the importance they attach to their NATO ally Turkey and that the 4 million Turks living in their country provide a bridge of friendship between the two countries and yet everything they do is against Turkey and the vital interests of our country.

Some German parliamentarians have displayed active sympathy toward the secessionist activities of the Kurdish militants in Turkey. German authorities say they regard the PKK as a terrorist organization and yet all they do is provide facilities for the PKK to voice its secessionist and pro-violence views under the pretext of freedom of expression. They seem to be sheltering the PKK and the Kurdish nationalist Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), which has now proven itself to be an extension of the PKK terrorist outfit.

If these views are regarded as an exaggeration then you only have to look at a court ruling in the German city of Hamburg last week to see the depth of the crisis. The court sentenced a PKK member to a year and nine months in prison for terrorist activities. Then the judge ordered the release of the convict saying the PKK had helped save the Yazidis in northern Iraq from a massacre by Daesh militants and that the PKK was fighting Daesh in northern Syria. The judge thought that justified the suspension of the verdict.

This is a judicial scandal of massive proportions. The activities of the PKK are simply terrorist activities that should be punished. Yet, the German judge created unacceptable alibis that will lead to legalizing the PKK in Germany. The Germans claim to have captured some PKK terrorists and yet we have not seen any of them sent to jail while Turkey has handed them more than 4,000 files on PKK terrorists seeking their extradition. None have been replied to.

Yet if this is the case then we only have to ask the Germans: Are you supporting the PKK's secessionist terrorist war in eastern and southeastern Turkey? Are you behind the plots to split Turkey?

The Austrian parliament has voted to impose an arms embargo against Turkey to support the PKK. We were told by industrial sources that the Germans encouraged this vote to pave the way for their own secret arms embargo against Turkey. We did not believe this at the time but when news came that German arms maker Heckler & Koch has also imposed an arms sales ban on Turkey we started to think twice. Is this how you treat friends especially at a time when they are waging an anti-terrorist war against Daesh, left-wing terrorist groups and the PKK?

But then we remember that the PKK used German-made Milan missiles against our forces and start thinking "why do the Germans hate us so much?"

But this is not all. Regrettably German authorities give shelter to the Fetullah Gülen activists who participated in the coup plot in Turkey on July 15 and the German media as well as parliamentarians still lament the failure of the blood coup attempt. When we see this, we realize that we are not regarded by the Germans as friends after all.

The situation gets even worse when you add to all this the growing hatred for foreigners in Germany (Turks are the largest minority in that country) and the Islamophobia that is encouraged by some German authorities.

So it seems the Germans do not want to see a strong partner like Turkey in the Middle East. They want to split Turkey and carve out a Kurdish state that will serve their own interests and also keep Turkey out of the European fold as accession will mean stronger bonds between Turkey and the Turks in Germany.

Germans have to understand that they have much to lose and nothing to gain with such misplaced policies. Time will show how right we are.
