Once again Turkey steps in to save the oppressed!
The world is on the sidelines, watching in disgust to what is happening in Aleppo, while Turkey is taking action
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is working overtime these days as the terrible human tragedy unfolds in the Syrian city of Aleppo.
The Assad regime forces and Iran-backed Shiite militia supported by Russian air power have been overcoming the Syrian opposition forces and driven them back into only three districts of Aleppo. The two districts are about to fall as the Assad regime and Shiite militia massacre the civilian population while they conquer the rest of Aleppo. In some areas the Syrian Kurdish militia are also involved in the massacre of the people of Aleppo.
The world has witnessed this massive human tragedy, but leading global powers included, everyone remains silent watching the carnage as children and women are butchered to death.
So once again Turkey has stepped in to help the oppressed and the underprivileged of Aleppo. However, it has met tough resistance especially from the Shiite militia controlled by Iran.
Ankara and the Kremlin had reached an agreement to provide safe passage to the suffering people of Aleppo so that they can be transferred to safe areas near the Turkish border or camps inside Turkey. The Russians have kept their part of the bargain, but then shockingly the whole world witnessed how Iran's Shiite militia refused to allow these people safe passage and instead attacked their convoys, killing at least four people. The militias fired at buses carrying wounded people from Aleppo, 5 of them in serious condition, after the attack, at least four of them killed. The Iranians simply wanted more blood and suffering, which is shocking.
It took Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu four phone calls to his Iranian counterpart to convince Tehran to put pressure on the Shiite militia to allow these suffering people to flee Aleppo.
On Thursday, convoys carrying the beleaguered people of Aleppo started moving out of the city in an uneasy agreement with the Shiite militias. Ten Turkish ambulances of the Red Crescent ferried the wounded of Aleppo to Turkish hospitals. So once again Turkey acts and the world just watches in "disgust," doing nothing for the suffering people of Aleppo.
Turkey has already taken in more than 2.7 million Syrians who fled Assad's brutality. It has been hosting them for the past five years and spent a total of $25 billion for their well-being. Foreign leaders have visited the camps where these Syrians are hosted and have been deeply impressed with the quality of help and the living conditions of these people. Yet the world, which now simply watches as the people of Aleppo are butchered, has done nothing for these Syrians in Turkey. The United Nations has provided $550 million only for the Syrians and the European Union, which promised to give at least 3 billion euros for the Syrians, has done nothing.
Turkey has frequently warned the international community about the imminent crisis in Aleppo, but as usual, the United States and European Union countries have preferred to play deaf.
