CHP deputy revolts after teacher's murder

A CHP deputy's condemnation of PKK terrorists, the murderers of an innocent, young teacher in Şanlıurfa, sets an example for other CHP members to jointly combat terrorism

He was a 23-year-old teacher from a village in the Anatolian city of Gümüşhane. He was serving as a teacher in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa near the Siverek township in extremely adverse conditions when he was recently kidnapped by PKK terrorists and then murdered in cold blood. He was Necmettin Yılmaz.

The death of Yılmaz sparked fury in the country where the separatist PKK terrorist organization has once again started to target teachers.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), which usually does not react to such killings, again remained silent. Yet, one brave opposition deputy from Tunceli, Gürsel Erol, stood up and took the stand in Parliament to condemn the attack and explained to the house the good work the security forces were doing throughout the country against the odds and the problems Turkey has suffered at the hands of terrorism. He called for unity and solidarity in the fight against terrorism.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called the deputy by phone and thanked him for his positive and constructive attitude and the way he served national unity and solidarity. Presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın also publicly thanked the deputy for his bold stance.

Thanks to CHP Deputy Erol, the CHP is organizing a protest march in Tunceli to condemn the PKK terrorism and the slaying of the young teacher.

Turkey has been progressively fighting and overcoming PKK terrorists inside the country. Turkish security forces have been hunting down PKK bands in eastern and southeastern Turkey and it is clear that the separatist terrorist organization is in deep trouble and has to pick on innocent people like teachers to boost the morale of their terrorists.

What is sad is that the international community that is so quick to condemn Turkey on various issues has been silent when the PKK has murdered a poor teacher. Why not condemn these PKK actions?

Turkey is fighting the Daesh terrorists in Turkey and in Syria with great success. Turkish security forces have prevented several planned Daesh terrorist attacks in the past few weeks. Yet no one really acknowledges this, on the contrary, they even have the audacity to claim Turkey is cooperating with Daesh.

The CHP on the other hand has been condemning the government for its fight against PKK militants and has taken a very critical view on the way Turkish authorities combat the terrorist organization. The fact that deputy Gürsel Erol had the courage to oppose the PKK has been a pleasant surprise to those who are leading the fight against the secessionist organization.

Let us hope there are more people in the CHP who can take such bold steps and encourage their fellow CHP people to jointly combat terrorism and secessionism.
