Turkey is one step closer to peace

As it is known, the reconciliation process has continued rapidly after the foundation of the new government that followed the presidential election. Former foreign minister and current Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoğlu, was also willing to make a new beginning in the resolution of the Kurdish issue, about which former prime minister and current president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said he was determined to continue. In early September, negotiations with the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) picked up speed and the PKK's imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan announced that they agreed on a route with the state.Meanwhile, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) is continuing its attack on Kobani, Syria. U.S. President Barack Obama said to Erdoğan that "Kobani might fall at any second." For about a year, the PKK carried out a smear campaign against the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) by claiming that the party provides aid to ISIS, which unfortunately became effective as the considerable newspapers of the West also joined in this propaganda war. Kurdish peace in Turkey has the power to change the balance in the region. However, a political party, namely the HDP, called people to demonstrate on the streets. There was vandalism especially in the southeastern region of the country. Kurdish citizens with beards were brutally killed on the grounds that they were members of ISIS. Provocative attacks were organized particularly by the religious Free Cause Party (HÜDA PAR), which has a violent past, but has tried to adjust itself to politics for a long time. Fifty-one citizens were killed as a result. In any other country, the reconciliation process would end and a war would break out under such circumstances. But the newly formed government passed this test quite successfully since it both stood against violence and tried to protect the process. Thus, a new phase was introduced in negotiations with Öcalan. The primary condition of the government was not threatening public order as blackmail. They were successful in maintaining the peace talks while threats of war were made. The new road map also recently reached the PKK's headquarters in the Qandil Mountains in Iraq. The PKK leadership declared that they acknowledged Öcalan's new road map. While the process was about to collapse, it found itself in a stronger position. This is the power of mind and courage. The announcement made by the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) pointed out that the meeting held between the delegation and the KCK had a broader participation compared to those made so far, and all the decision makers of the KCK participated in the meeting. KCK authorities said to the delegation that they accepted the Democratic Resolution and Negotiation Draft with a full consensus and were ready to fulfill their duties and requirements parallel to the draft to reach a final solution . A written statement issued by the HDP said the KCK accepted to conform to the schedule Öcalan prepared. The statement also read that the KCK would issue a detailed announcement regarding all the subject matters and underlined that the supervision delegation should start working as soon as possible. It was also said that all the statements the KCK would make or guarantee would be open to the supervision of this delegation in order to follow the process.Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder, one of the HDP İmralı delegation members, organized a press meeting in Ankara on Wednesday and said the draft would be publicly announced after the delegation returned from Iraq. After the announcement of the draft, the delegation is expected to meet with Deputy Prime Minister Yalçık Akdoğan this week for the second time. The HDP delegation is expected to visit İmralı Island either this week or the following week. The reconciliation process seems to have overcome another great obstacle. Hopefully, a new occurrence of irresponsibility will not be displayed and peace will arrive in the spring.
