Explaining the July 15 coup attempt to the world

On July 15, 2016, Turkey went through the most horrendous night in its history. Istanbul, one of the most important metropolitan cities in the world, was beset with tanks and heavy weapons on that Friday night. The two intercontinental bridges linking Asia to Europe were blocked while tanks drove towards and ran over civilians. F-16 jets constantly flew low over our homes all night.

In Ankara, the Parliament, the Presidential Office and the Office of the Chief of General Staff were bombed. The windows of houses cracked due to the vibration induced by the low-flying jets. Civilians were shot when they took to the streets to fight against this atrocity.

I am recollecting the details of that night so the world can visualize what happened. What if the Brooklyn Bridge was blocked by tanks, the U.S. Capitol in Washington was air bombed, people in the streets were run over by tanks, armed soldiers pointed their guns at civilians on a Friday night, or the Bundestag was bombed? You can't even imagine, can you? But unfortunately, Turkey has experienced such a nightmare and to make matters worse, it had to convince the world what it went through.

The Parliamentary Coup Investigation Committee, which was formed with the aim of illuminating the details of that night, released a report last week, which also comprises the report of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT).

Meanwhile, the main case opened on the coup attempt is ongoing. The indictment of the case, which consists of thousands of pages, reveals all the details of the insurrection. As details are revealed, it is becoming clear how meticulously the plans were organized and what kind of an extreme danger was averted.

Considering that more than 250 people, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's close friends and colleagues, lost their lives in the incidents, while the president and his family barely escaped death, how can this insurrection be a fictitious or controlled?

The report states that the MİT informed about the possibility of a Gülenist coup attempt but precise information could not be obtained for the reason that intel from within the Turkish Armed Forces was not available (because at that point in time military intelligence was already seized by Gülenists).

On the day of July 15, 2016, a major headed to the MİT headquarters to say that an attack might be organized against the MİT undersecretary and some large-scale attacks might follow suit.

Taking action upon this notice, the Chief of General Staff sent the Land Forces commander to one of the air bases where the coup plotters were attempting to execute their plans. Realizing the suspicions, the coup plotters nervously moved their coup plans to an earlier time from 3 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Had that notice not been made, the coup plotters would have been able to execute their original plan and catch the state off guard at 3 a.m. and their chances of success would have been much higher.

Unfortunately, this picture shows how successfully and meticulously the Gülenists organized everything by lying low until July 15. It also showed how the state remained incapable of doing anything against it. But still, those putschists, who were controlling the air travel of F-16 jets from the air base that night and the ones who took the Chief of General Staff and other commanders hostage during the coup and the masterminds behind the attempt, are denying everything.

When you listen to them, you would think that the coup attempt was either never executed or it was carried out by some extraterrestrial beings. Their total denial of their acts gives the impression that there is a central strategy.

To perplex minds, Gülenists are giving the same erroneous message to the world in unison. Being the ones who experienced that night in its entirety, it's hard for us to be deceived by their words but it is, however, highly probable for people who were not there to get confused. For that reason, it is crucial to explain to the world how the July 15 attempt was planned and executed step by step.
