A week ago, a referendum was held in Hungary and almost everyone casting ballots at the referendum voted against the refugee plans of the EU. They went on a rampage just because a few hundred refugees are likely to enter the country.

Last week, the Union of European Turkish Democrats (UETD), a Cologne-based, non-governmental organization, hosted a delegation of British Parliament members in Turkey. The delegation was embarrassed when they learned that some 650,000 refugees are hosted in the Şanlıurfa province of Turkey, where the total population is 750,000, compared to the mere 2,000 Syrian refugees in the U.K.

The radical right-wing and racist parties who are on the rampage in European countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark - all over a few hundred refugees - are increasing their electorate. Germany, with its population of 82 million, is hosting just one-fourth of the total number of refugees in Turkey which has a population of 78 million by comparison. In Germany, the Alternative for Germany Party (AfD), which has engaged itself in spreading anti-refugee propaganda with racist slogans, is competing to become the third major political party in the Bundestag by increasing its voting rate to over 10 percent in the last two years.

In the eastern part of Germany, regardless of whether there are refugees or not, people who even physically resemble refugees are becoming the targets of assaults. Recently, a Liberian family was attacked in their home in Germany. Mosques are also among the places often targeted by racists in Germany. Compared to last year, racist attacks have doubled in 2016 and those who propagate racist slogans are coming "out of the closet" unabashedly. On Oct. 3, AfD party members took this one step further and began jeering at German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Joachim Gauck, exposing their audacity.

Racist tendencies are heating up in EU countries as we have see with U.K. Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage in England, Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, AfD leader Frauke Petry in Germany, the National Front and its leader Marine Le Pen in France and others which are sadly gaining prominence in each election they participate in.

On the other hand, after losing their Mitterand, Blair and Schröder.

Since their inability to manage the economic crisis in Greece - and the refugee crisis - is being regarded as a display of incompetence by the EU public, these representatives have failed to present a better alternative to their racist propaganda which is fueled by antagonism.

In the midst of such a period, EU administrators also displayed a similar level of incompetence in the context of the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey, which was a premeditated, albeit unsuccessful attempt to downgrade Turkey to "deplorable" status by throwing it into the same condition as Syria. The EU failed to support Turkish citizens, who defended democracy by standing up against the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) militants, even though the militants attempted to start a civil war by using war jets, helicopters and tanks, and raiding state institutions including the Turkish Parliament in total bombardment. Even worse, they retreated into silence for a while and raised skepticism against the Turkish people's courageous display of resistance and their brave fight to preserve democracy in the country.

As a matter of fact, this situation was a complete scandal for European social democrats, who claim to be following the EU, the stronghold of democracy, and unforgettable leaders such as Willy Brandt and Christian democrats as well, who claim to represent religious values. They managed to pay a visit to Turkey weeks after the coup attempt although they were supposed to come on the day immediately after to act in solidarity with democracy defenders. It took many weeks for them to admit that they had been late and it had been a mistake.

In any case, when they visited Turkey and learned of the atrocity caused by FETÖ, they were amazed. They visited some of the bombed state offices including Parliament and examined the spaces which had been ravaged. They learned how FETÖ militants killed people for directly bearing witness to the incidents. In statements issued after their visits, they remarked that they understood the extent of terrorism after their visit to Turkey where they observed conditions which stood in stark contrast to their impression about the military coup attempt prior to their visit.

Also, nearly all the representatives of the EU countries who visited Turkey spoke about cooperating with Turkey against FETÖ, also emphasizing that they appreciated Turkey's attempts to cleanse their NATO borders of DAISH and its successful Operation Euphrates Shield in Syria. While issuing such remarks, they also touched upon the point that the PKK is a terrorist organization and underlined that they side with Turkey in its fight against the PKK.

However, there is one situation which the Turkish people can not understand.

If nearly all the EU countries side with Turkey in its fights against FETÖ and the PKK, then why are they allowing FETÖ militants and PKK fugitive terrorists to stay in various EU countries?

The citizens of Turkey are rightfully questioning this obvious contradiction.

Why do the ones that do not favor refugees embrace and welcome the perpetrators of terrorist attacks that caused Syrians or Iraqis to become refugees?

FETÖ members, who escalated the Syrian civil war by downing a Russian war jet and caused the refugee number to climb, are almost staying in the royal suites of hotels in EU countries.

PKK militants, who also caused refugee numbers to soar with their violent terrorist attacks in southeastern Turkey, Syria and Iraq and transported illegal immigrants to EU countries by organizing human trafficking activities, are continuing their activities in EU countries without being bothered.

The intelligence organizations of EU countries and local police departments, which have extensive data banks and could effectively benefit from utilizing those resources to make useful analyses, certainly already have a massive amount of information on the terror group FETÖ and the PKK. Just look at Interpol and Europol. When I was a member of the European Parliament, during my visits to Europol headquarters based in the Hague as part of my duty as a budget rapporteur for the EU that I listen to briefings countless times, where I heard that the PKK is a mafia organization engaging in drug and human trafficking between the Middle East and Europe. What has changed since this information was released? Nothing.

The public learned through the media that in Sweden alone there are more than 130 FETÖ members hiding in the country by abusing the asylum application method. And Sweden is not the only European country being used as a European version of Hotel California by FETÖ members.

Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany are among the leading countries where FETÖ militants fled after the failed coup attempt. Some former prosecutors with shadowy pasts, former diplomats and officers are maintaining their activities under the command of the terrorist group under quite luxurious conditions in these countries. The security organizations of EU countries are probably following the monetary sources which are maintaining these luxurious living standards for terrorists and the steps taken by the terrorists.

Some EU countries are undoubtedly "Hotel Europe" in the eyes of terrorists, and that contradicts all the values of the EU. Terrorism is a crime against humanity. No matter what their professions are, a state of law is required to implement steps to bring those committing these offenses to justice. If the terrorists are not extradited to Turkey on the pretext that they requested asylum, then they must be charged in the countries they reside in for the crimes they have committed. The ability to move freely throughout EU countries is a display of disrespect for the people of Turkey and the families of the victims of the bloody July 15 coup attempt.

The families of the victims murdered by FETÖ or PKK are rightfully expecting the EU countries, particularly Germany, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands, to take measures against the free movement of the offenders. The EU, which insists on maintaining the unjust visa requirements and restrains the free movement of Turkish citizens, remains indifferent to the free movement of terrorists, which is unacceptable.
