Another Sunday came with news of an explosion committed by terrorists in the southern city of Gaziantep. Contrary to the joyful celebrations of May 1, International Workers' Day, Turkey started the day with the pain of its losses. However, despite efforts to terrorize the country, this nation and state is quick to overcome difficulties.Gaziantep, a city hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees, is the symbol of hospitality and shelter-providing. Aleppo, a city that is not far from Gaziantep, has become the symbol of the silence of the world with every barrel bomb exploding over the city. During days-long bombing by Russian-Syrian joint forces, dozens of innocent people have been killed as well as the only pediatrician in the city.Russian-Syrian war criminals targeted hospitals in the city, violating the rules of war. As the United States is in consensus with Russia over Syria, are these attacks being green lit by Washington? Moreover, is the silence of the world over the tragedy in Aleppo a strategic decision?How far is extreme-laicism from Islamophobia? As I followed the debate in Turkey over laicity, I thought about the implementation of the law of laicity in France, which is the source of secularism in Turkey. I am not talking about the official French position on laicity. However, extreme-right politicians may use laicity as the basis or as the excuse for their Islamophobic positions. … In the final analysis, an obsessive version of laicism may pave the ground for Islamophobia. ...
