The recent tensions over the Gulf region are apparently easing following efforts made by Ankara and other friendly countries. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spent a great deal of effort to find an appropriate solution for overcoming the crises that erupted following a blockade put in place on Qatar by Gulf nations including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekçi are currently visiting Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. In an aim to reach an appraisement in accordance with the atmosphere of the holy month of Ramadan, Ankara is trying to promote dialogue and a solution between the Gulf countries.

New, somewhat paradoxical messages from the West regarding the crisis also highlight the necessity for the establishment of a regional initiative to overcome the conflict.

Reports stating that Qatar will sign an agreement with the U.S. for a warplanes contract worth $12 billion contradicted the recent statements coming from other Gulf states as well as U.S. President Donald Trump, who alleged that Qatar was involved in the financing of terrorism.

The careful and responsible attitude of the Qatari state in response to the steps taken by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt also played a large role in paving the suitable ground for easing the tension in the region.

Meanwhile, the European Union countries, especially Germany, took a different stance to the prior position of Donald Trump over Qatar. Perhaps for the first time, a war of nerves between Washington and the EU brought about the very positive result that nobody in Europe shared the same stance with Washington over a crisis.

The accusations brought by certain Gulf states over the so-called support provided by Qatar to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood are, for the time being, understood to be baseless claims aimed at cornering Qatar.

And following the abovementioned contract to be signed between Washington and Qatar, who can continue to talk about the financing of terrorism by Qatar?

In order not to pay the "price of peace in an expensive bill," local solutions are needed for the solution of regional crisis instead of overseas priorities.
