A passenger plane of Malaysia Airlines, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down over Ukraine. Together with the crew, almost 300 passengers including prominent scientists lost their lives. It is suspected that the aircraft was very likely hit by a guided missile. Such an attack could be carried out only by Ukrainian or Russian armed forces, because the rebel forces fighting against the central government, in Donetsk and Luhansk, do not possess a weapon capable of taking down an aircraft flying at an altitude of nearly 33,000 feet. The insurgents, who have already declared their "independence" in Luhanks, asserted that the passenger plane was attacked by a Ukrainian jet, and both aircrafts crashed as a result of this assault. It is not possible to understand what have happened exactly at this stage but one thing is very clear: There is war in Ukraine. As the Ukrainian presidential candidate and former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko says, it is not instability and positional conflicts that is going on in Donetsk and in Luhansk but it is a war happening in the middle of Europe.In Ukraine, a legitimately elected president used to be in power. A grassroots movement started against Viktor Yanukovich. Since the Orange Revolution, EU leaders are keen to perceive any type of grassroots movement as a "democratic revolution", hence the pressure for a change of government and call for re-election. Ukraine, which was already delicately poised was split into two and Crimea declared its independence, whereas Eastern Ukraine started armed resistance against the legitimacy of the central government. After ground was lost against the EU and western alliance, except the Georgian War, Putin took his chance to reinforce its rulership. He has not only gained domestic support through the instigation of Russian nationalism, but also exposed the inability of the Ukrainian central government to rule through his support for separatists. So far, the attempts of "regime exporting" of the U.S. and the EU brought nothing but grounds for anti-democratic powers to counter attack. Following the September 11 attacks, the U.S. targeted Afghanistan and Iraq, with obvious consequences. Such attempts by the U.S.s were only in favour of one country; so Iran was obliged to build up a military on the border of Iraq. It had also to protect the Shiah movements against the Taliban of Afghanistan. With the U.S. interventions, Iran has been relieved. Since then, Iran-directed movements in the Middle East have been gaining momentum. The U.S. did it in order to bring "democracy". Similarly, EU supported the collapse of the current Ukrainian regime thereby planning to form a bargain of balance with Russia, but it did not extend the full support needed for the new regime. As a consequence, there is an ongoing civil war in Ukraine with ever-growing tension.The obsession of "regime exporting" that the Western world currently has is very similar to the obsession of "teaching about being civilized to the underdeveloped countries and societies is the duty of developed nations" which was applied by France and the U.K. during the last period of colonialism. Democracy is not an issue that can be ran by domestic policy issues and military operations, unless it is created with the country's internal dynamics. Just because your democracy works smoothly does not mean that it is implementable to different societies as a model. The last plane crash tragedy caused the death of people who has nothing to do with the Ukraine geography. The idea of attempting to engineer societies from the outside, results always in a heavy price to pay. This has also been tried on Turkey, luckily it did not succeed.
