Turkey said on Friday the Arab League's recent condemnation of the Turkish military deployment in Iraq shows the bloc does not fully understand the importance of Turkey's efforts against Daesh.Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgiç said on Friday that Arab League could not fully comprehend Turkey's determined efforts against Daesh and how serious is the threat Daesh poses to the region. The statement came after the remarks made by Arab League chief, Nabil al-Arabi in an emergency meeting to discuss Baghdad's growing tensions with Ankara over Turkish troops in Northern Iraq, in which he said "The Turkish military incursion into Iraq is a clear violation of international law and Iraqi sovereignty," Bilgiç further said that Turkey have already made necessary explanations regarding its activities in the region and its efforts to establish new mechanisms to deepen the cooperation against Daesh will remain at the same level.Baghdad had complained about the Dec. 4 deployment of troops to the site near Mosul, calling it a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and insisting the Turkish forces be withdrawn.Ankara said the fewer than 1,000 troops in northern Iraq were there to train Kurdish fighters in taking Daesh and emphasized the country's respect for territorial integrity and country borders, adding that the troops were deployed over a year ago upon the call of the Iraqi government.Last week, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that Ankara would pull more troops out of northern Iraq in an effort to calm tensions with Baghdad.Turkish officials report that 150 soldiers and up to 25 tanks were stationed in Bashiqa to protect Turkish servicemen training Iraqi volunteers to fight Daesh. The training mission in Iraq has been ongoing since March and does not involve combat duties.
