As discussions on the extradition of Fethullah Gülen, leader of the Gülen Movement and in self-imposed exile in the US, continue to top the agenda of the government, Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, stated Friday that due to a dual-legal agreement, the U.S. will extradite Gülen to Turkey. Speaking to the Turkish daily Bugün, Çavuşoğlu underlined that the Foreign Ministry is waiting for the Ministry of Justice to finalize its work on the extradition.

Çavuşoğlu in his recent statements said while the ministry closely follows the developments on the matter, he added that once the Ministry of Justice completes its work on issuing a Red Notice and the request procedure for the extradition of Gülen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take on further official action. Çavuşoğlu continued that he believes the U.S. will take all necessary action toward extraditing Gülen, and added that Turkeys request to the U.S. is not for Gülen's deportation, but rather for extraditing him to Turkey to respond to allegations. "Our request from the U.S. is to have Gülen extradited to Turkey, where he goes into trial, and to answer the lawsuits against him. We are requesting the procedure be processed fully," added Çavuşoğlu.
