Turkey to host Central America ministers in SICA meeting


Turkey will host the second foreign ministers forum of the Central America Integration System (SICA) in Istanbul on April 20.

According to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources, foreign ministers of the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Costa Rica will attend the meeting, in addition to Nicaragua's minister of state and Panama's deputy minister.

As part of the upcoming forum, Guatemala Foreign Minister Carlos Raul Morales and Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas will also hold bilateral meetings in Ankara on April 19.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his Guatemalan counterpart are expected to inaugurate Guatemala's embassy in Ankara.

The embassy of the Dominican Republic is also planned to open within this year, becoming the fourth SICA member in addition to Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala to have an embassy in Ankara and increasing the number of Latin American embassies to 13.

SICA was founded in 1991 to increase cooperation for regional peace, political freedom, democracy and economic development among the member states.

Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize and the Dominican Republic make up its eight full members, while it also has 10-extra-regional observes, including Italy, Spain, Mexica, Japan and Germany.
