The U.N. special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, stated on Monday that the seventh round of the Geneva Peace Talks will take place in June.

Attending the U.N. Security Council meeting on Syria via video conference, Mistura also referred to news that revealed a conflict between the regime forces and armed opposition groups in Homs, Aleppo and Hama, which occurred despite the safe zone agreement.

He indicated that regime forces are attacking the opposition groups that fight against Daesh in Homs and As-Suwayda.

Mistura also said meetings by experts to make a new constitution for Syria have started.

However, he also indicated that the constitution will not be designed by the U.N.; the organization will merely assist the process by providing solid ground for it to be put into place.

The sixth round of Syria talks in Geneva last Friday ended in failure, as there was no progress on any issue for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Five previous rounds of U.N.-backed negotiations also have failed to yield concrete results and hopes for a major breakthrough remain dim.

Since civil war in Syria erupted in March 2011, more than 250,000 people have been killed, according to the U.N. while the Syrian Center for Policy Research puts the death toll at more than 470,000.
