South Korean ambassador to Ankara Yunsoo Cho said that his country will not forget the Turkish soldiers who fought in the Korean War.

"Now, it's time to strengthen and further develop our ties with Turkey," Ambassador Cho.

Speaking at a memorial ceremony in honor of the 67th anniversary of the Korean War in Ankara on June 6, Ambassador Cho said that after the Korean War his country became a democratic society.

He said his country successfully managed to become one of the leading economies in the world, noting that for this reason Korea will never forget Turkey and its contributions to the Korean War.

Turkey joined the Korean War under U.N. command in 1950 and 1953 amid efforts to support South Korea in its struggle for freedom, democracy and independence, where a total of 741 Turkish troops were killed during the war.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry recently released a statement describing relations with South Korea as an "important milestone for the Turkish and Korean people who are connected to each other by long-standing ties of affection, friendship and respect." This year, Turkey and South Korea are celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 2017 was mutually declared as the "Turkish-Korean Year of Culture," an honorary day that will be celebrated with numerous cultural activities in both countries.
