Dominick Chilcott, the former British ambassador to Ireland, will replace Richard Moore as the new British envoy to Ankara, diplomatic sources told Daily Sabah.

Chilcott will serve as the new British ambassador to Turkey having completed his duty as ambassador to Ireland between 2011 and 2016. "Dominick Chilcott is a career diplomat who joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office 30 years ago," the U.K. government says on its website about Chilcott.

Moore has been the British ambassador to Turkey since January 2014. Prior to his tenure in Ankara, he served as director for Europe, Latin America and globalization from 2010 to 2012 and director for Programs and Change from 2008 to 2010. He has also had postings in Vietnam, Turkey (1990 to 1992), Pakistan and Malaysia.

Moore was born in Libya. He has a bachelor's degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University and, on leaving Oxford, won a Kennedy Scholarship for post-graduate study at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 2007, he attended the Stanford Executive Program. Moore also speaks proficient Turkish.
