Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu discussed violence against the Muslim Rohingya minority in Myanmar with his counterparts from three different countries, diplomatic sources said Wednesday.

According to the sources, Çavuşoğlu spoke with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, Malaysian counterpart Anifah Aman and Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani regarding latest developments involving Muslims in Myanmar.

In the past week around 3,000 Rohingya Muslims have been killed in the violence, while some 18,000 have fled persecution according to the International Organization for Migration.

Turkey has urged all countries to stand up for the Rohingya, who face persecution and displacement by Myanmar security forces.

Mass gang-rape, killings –including babies and children- and disappearances have taken place in the region according to the United Nations.

On Tuesday, Britain urged the U.N. Security Council to hold a meeting regarding the violence in Myanmar.
