Azerbaijani, Turkish, Pakistani FMs to meet in Baku


Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will attend a trilateral meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan tomorrow in Baku.

According to the statement released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Minister Çavuşoğlu will also attend the seventh Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process on Afghanistan on Nov. 30 being held in Azerbaijan's capital Baku this year.

"In the trilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan, which will be organized for the first time, topics like strengthening the relations between the three brotherly and friendly countries as well as regional and international matters will be discussed," the statement said.

As part of his official visit, Çavuşoğlu is expected to meet with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, diplomatic officials said.

The Istanbul Process was established as a result of Turkey's efforts at the "Istanbul Conference for Afghanistan" held on Nov. 2, 2011 and aims to "reinforce regional cooperation and solidarity in order to support Afghanistan in every way."

"A total of 14 regional countries, including Turkey, other countries supporting the process, and representatives of regional and international organizations, will participate in the upcoming seventh session of the ministerial conference to be co-chaired by Afghanistan and Azerbaijan," the ministry said.

Çavuşoğlu will also hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of the countries on the sidelines of the conference.
