Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım is scheduled to pay an official visit to South Korea on December 4-6 and meet South Korean counterpart Lee Nak-yeon and hold meetings on economic, commercial and political ties.

According to information obtained from prime ministerial resources, Yıldırım will visit the capital city of Seoul and hold a meeting with Lee, President Moon Jae-in and National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun.

During these meetings, Yıldırım and South Korean politicians are expected to discuss a number of issues including political, economic, commercial and cultural cooperation as well as the fight against terrorism, unregulated migration and current regional and international matters. Yıldırım will also meet with senior executives of Korean companies and visit the Turkish soldier memorial in Busan. Yıldırım's visit is of importance as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of Turkish-South Korean diplomatic relations.

As of 2016, the bilateral trade volume between Turkey and South Korea was $6.4 billion according to Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) data. The two countries have a free trade agreement, which was expanded in 2015 to include the service sector and investments. In 2016, a South Korean company made the largest acquisition in Turkey. J CGV Co. Ltd, South Korea's largest movie theater chain operator, said on Monday that it acquired 100 percent of Turkey's MARS Entertainment Group A.Ş. for 605 million euros. Currently, 292 South Korean companies operate in Turkey.
