Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a visit to Turkey's capital Ankara on Monday, December 11 to discuss the Syrian crisis, U.S. President Donald Trump's Jerusalem move and bilateral ties with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the president's office said Friday.

Trump's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the current situation in Syria as well as other regional and bilateral issues will dominate the meeting between the two leaders, the statement said.

Erdoğan and Putin held a phone conversation Thursday to discuss the U.S.' Jerusalem move, a decision both leaders warned would negatively affect peace and stability in the region, sources said.

Putin told Erdoğan that he will also be following the issue at the U.N. Security Council.

Jerusalem remains at the core of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem -- now occupied by Israel -- might serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
