OIC Summit to focus on Palestinian oppression, Presidential Spox Kalın says

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit to be held in Istanbul Friday will focus on the steps that need to be taken to end oppression in Palestine, Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Kalın said Thursday.

In a statement released Thursday, Kalın said the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian issue are not only the problems of the Muslim countries alone but "common problems for everyone who believe in law and justice."

"The summit will focus on the attitude and actions to be taken by Muslim countries in solidarity and cooperation with the Palestinian State and its people in order to defend the causes of Palestine and Jerusalem," the top presidential aide said.

The OIC had previously declared East Jerusalem the capital of Palestine "under occupation" and urged the U.S. to withdraw from the peace process and back down from its Jerusalem decision.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently said that Turkey will propose to establish a joint effort by the OIC and the European Union to settle the issue over Jerusalem's status.
