Ministry of Finance tracking tax evaders
The Ministry of Finance identified some 10,000 potential taxpayers, who sold more than 10 real properties between 2009 and 2012 and did not pay taxes regularly. The ministry examined the credit credentials of those taxpayers who performed sales with housing loans at the Tax Inspection Board. The ministry also examined the tax assessment of cash sales to determine informality. Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said that they keep a close eye on those who permanently sell houses but do not pay taxes regularly, adding, "We cannot permit informality in any sector. As a result of our studies, we have found a tax loss of around TL 1 billion ($454 million) in house sales and will do what is necessary."
