June 2014 unemployment rates announced as 9.1 percent


Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced June 2014 unemployment rate as 9.1 percent on Monday, exceeding May 2014 level of 8.8 percent.According to TÜİK, number of unemployed persons over 15 years has realized as 2,654,000 persons in the period of June 2014 in Turkey, with a 154.000 increase.Unemployment rate realized as 8.3 percent for males and 10.9 percent for females, non-agricultural unemployment rate realized as 11.1 percent, while youth unemployment rate including 15-24 age group realized as 16.7 percent, unemployment rate for 15-64 age group occured as 9.3 percent.Number of employed persons over 15 years old realized as 26,586,000 persons in the period of June 2014 and employment rate occured as 46.7 percent, while employment rate realized as 66.3 percent for males, 27.6 percent for females.Agricultural employment realized as 5,937,000 persons and non-agricultural employment realized as 20,650,000 persons in this period. Of those who were employed in this period; 22.3 percent was employed in agriculture, 20.1 percent was employed in industry, 7.4 percent was employed in construction and 50.3 percent was employed in services. Labour force participation rate (LFPR) realized as 51.3 percent with 29 million 240 thousand persons in the period of June 2014 in Turkey. LFPR realized as 72.3 percent for males and 30.9 percent for females.The ratio of persons who worked without any social security related to the main job realized as 36.4 percent in the period of June 2014. While this rate realized as 83.6 percent in agriculture sector, 22.8 percent in non-agriculture sector.Seasonally adjusted employed persons decreased by 96.000 persons and reached 25,859,000 persons compared to the previous period. Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 45.4 percent by 0.2 percentage point decrease.In the period of June 2014, the number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons increased by 115,000 persons. Unemployment rate occured as 9.9 percent by 0.4 percentage point increase.Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate realized as 50.4 percent by 0.1 percentage point decrease. The highest increase for employed persons by economic activity realized in services sector with 62,000 persons.
