Babacan decries negative media campaign

Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said in a provincial ordinary congress of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in Akyurt that Turkey has been facing a negative media campaign practiced on an international basis, claiming, "If we are sure that what we do is true, we do not need to be afraid of anything, no matter what the world's headlines say."Babacan said that inflation has recently seen a great decline, adding, "We have tackled many economic problems and left them in the past. In addition to paying off our net external debt, we have a surplus of $30 million and the central bank has a reserve of $132 billion. Last year, we completely paid off our debt to the IMF and opened a credit limit."Touching on Turkey's humanitarian spending, Babacan stated that Turkey was listed among countries in need of help in 2003, but it has now become a country which lends a helping hand to others. "This year, we entered the list of rising 'helping countries.' In the last year alone, our external humanitarian spending reached $3.3 billion to rank us third in the issuance of humanitarian aid," Babacan added.
