Greece carries out first privatization under Syriza government

Greece's Coalition of the Radical Left (Syriza) government on Friday carried out its first privatization since coming to power three months ago by selling a 20-year horseracing gambling license to a subsidiary of the Czech-Greek company Opap for 40.5 million euros ($44 million). Prime MinisterAlexis Tsipras's government had been largely opposed to the planned sale of state assets by the previous government and had vowed to halt such privatizations. But it came under intense pressure from cash-strapped Greece's international creditors to move forward with the sale.
