Economic confidence drops 5.4 pct in June

Confidence in the economy weakened in June, according to a Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) report announced yesterday. The economic confidence index dropped 5.4 percent since May to 78.99, its lowest value in two years. The index indicates the evaluations, expectations and tendencies concerning the general economic situation, and consists of confidence indicators of consumers, the real sector (manufacturing), services, retail trade and the construction sectors. The significant decline in the real sector and the services sector sub-indexes were the main causes of the fall in the composite index. The economic confidence index has dropped by 15.2 percent since the beginning of 2015 when the index was 93.2.
