A total of TL 387 billion ($133 billion) has been spent using bank cards and credit cards in the first nine months of this year, according to data released by Interbank Card Center (BKM). About TL 360 billion of this total was paid with credit cards, while the remaining TL 27 billion was paid with bank cards. According to the BKM, the number of bank cards increased by 10 percent, reaching 113.2 million, over the last year and the number of credit cards increased by 1.5 percent, reaching 58 million. The amount paid by credit cards has increased 14 percent in the first nine months of the year when compared to the same period of the previous year, while the amount paid by bank cards increased 26 percent in the same time period. Fifty percent of bank card holders preferred to pay their expenses under TL 100 with their bank cards.
