Unemployment benefits rise with minimum wage hike
The recent 30 percent increase in net minimum wage to TL 1,300 ($441) will also increase unemployment benefits.
With the recent hike, the bottom limit of monthly unemployment benefits was raised from TL 509 to TL 659, according to Turkish daily Habertürk. The top limit of unemployment benefits also increased from TL 1,019 to TL 1,318.
According to the law, top and bottom limits of unemployment benefits are determined in accordance with the minimum wage. When unemployment benefits are applied, the average of a four-month total of gross wage is calculated, and 40 percent of the average figure is paid. However, this figure cannot exceed 80 percent of gross minimum wage.
In the January-November period of 2015, a sum of TL 1.99 billion was paid in unemployment benefits. This figure was TL 1.27 billion in 2013 and TL 1.6 billion in 2014.
