Figures from Turkish business world have issued statements condemning the terrorist attack that took place at Istanbul's Atatürk International Airport last night. The messages stressed that terrorism will not overshadow Turkey's stability and economic and diplomatic achievements.Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) President Nail Olpak said the attack is not a coincidence given that it followed major positive steps from Turkey in the area of foreign policy with Israel and Russia. He said that the incidents prove that Turkey's foreign policy perspective of "increasing the number of friends and reducing the number of enemies" is a correct move which has been successful. Reiterating that terrorism is not affiliated with any language, religion or race, Olpak said such attacks will fail to discourage Turkey.Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) President Ömer Cihad Vardan said the attack on the airport's international terminal, which took place at one of the busiest spots in the city, is directly aimed at Turkey's economy, democracy and its people's sense of security. He called on the international community to support Turkey's struggle with terror and act in unison against the global terror threat.Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TİM) President Mehmet Büyükekşi stated that the attack targeted citizens around the world and innocent people who exercised one of their basic rights, freedom of travel. Underlining that terrorism is a reality against which the entire world must fight, Büyükekşi said Tuesday's attack targeted Turkey's peace, potential and economic structure.Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said inhumane and heinous attacks like this, which target Turkey's unity and solidarity, will never succeed.Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) President İbrahim Çağlar said the attack targeted the whole of humanity, adding, "We have once again seen that terror has no nation and country."Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO) President Erdal Bahçıvan said that the terrorist attack was not only aimed at humane values, peace and humanity, but also at the identity of Istanbul as a city, a place which is the capital of civilizations and cultures. "It is an attempt to change Istanbul's very identity," he said.International Investors' Association (YASED) said that Tuesday's attack targeted the peace and safety of not only Turkey, but also the whole of humanity. He highlighted that counterterrorism must be carried out in solidarity with international bodies, as it poses a threat to the entire world, adding, "We harshly condemn this attack and once again reiterate our confidence in Turkey's stability and future."Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (TÜSİAD) also issued a written statement condemning the attack. The statement read: "As with all inhumane attacks that we have recently witnessed, sadly, this attack was aimed at the peace, democracy and social order of both Turkey and the international community. This atrocious attack, which directly targeted the heart of our country, has once again revealed the importance and urgency of an overall fight against terror on a global scale."
