Turkey's inflation rate increases above the forecast in June

Turkey's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.47 percent in June, slightly above the forecast, while the producer price index increased by 0.41 percent with annual inflation up at 7.64 percent.

Turkey's annual inflation rate rose by 1 percent last month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). Official figures showed that inflation increased to 7.64 percent in June from 6.58 percent in May while the monthly inflation rate increased by 0.47 percent in June compared to the previous month. The greatest annual increase was in the price of green peppers, which rose 28.43 percent.

The price of spring onions, lettuce, lemons and eggs as well as newspapers also increased. The price of onions fell by 14.97 percent. The prices of potatoes, green beans and strawberries also went down.

According to the government's Medium-Term Economic Program, inflation is to reach 7.5 percent by the end of this year.
