Economy Minister: State of emergency to accelerate reforms
Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said the declaration of a state of emergency will not impede economic reforms but will rather accelerate them. Zeybekci noted incentives and structural reforms that will increase savings will progress at full steam, adding that the state of emergency will not negatively affect production, exports or the business world.
Zeybekci posted to his Twitter account: "As our President [Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] announced yesterday, incentives and structural reforms, which will increase savings, will continue at full speed. Our production, exports and business world will not be negatively affected by the decision of a state of emergency."
The minister underlined that no extraordinary practices, such as the restriction of capital movements, will be launched apart from the normal functioning. He further noted that they will continue to practice market-friendly policies that protect economic freedoms within the framework of law.
According to Zeybekci, measures taken after the attempted coup are aimed at ensuring security and stability, which are the most important pillars for the economy. He affirmed that, "These decisions will not prevent our economic reforms, but rather will further accelerate them."
