The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the results of the 2015 Income and Living Conditions Survey on Wednesday. Accordingly, the average annual household disposable income of individuals in Turkey went up from TL 14,553 ($4,888) to TL 16,515 increasing by 13.5 percent in comparison to the previous year.The survey indicated that with 20 percent, the share of the top quintile by the household disposable income in Turkey surged up to 46.5 percent, increasing by 0.6 points while with 20 percent, the share of the bottom quintile, dropped to 6.1 percent, decreasing by 0.1 points. Thus, the share of the top quintile in total revenue rose to 46.5 percent in 2015.According to the poverty threshold set at 50 percent of the median household disposable income, the poverty rate stood at 14.7 percent with a 0.3 point decrease compared to the previous year. According to the poverty threshold set at 60 percent of the median income, the poverty rate reached 21.9 percent increasing by 0.1 points compared to the previous year.While 43 percent of the residential population experienced heating problems due to lack of insulation, 39 percent had problems with leaky roofs, damp walls and rotten window frames while 20.6 percent complained about dark rooms or insufficient lighting. A vast 68.5 percent of the population, on the other hand, noted that they could not replace the worn and outdated furniture due to economic reasons.
