World Food Moscow fair points to resuming trade with Russia

Russian food supply firms are showing increasing demand for fresh Turkish fruits and vegetables, while the West Mediterranean Exporters' Association (BAİB) is sharing its list of products that food suppliers are demanding at the World Food Moscow Fair.According to a written statement by BAİB, fresh fruit and vegetable exporters in the Western Mediterranean are eyeing opportunities in Russia since President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin relieved strained relations stemming from last year's fighter jet crisis.Western Mediterranean exporters are making preparations, as they do not want to be caught unprepared for any developments regarding the export of Turkish fresh fruit and vegetables to Russia, which might start at any moment. BAİB attended the World Food Moscow Fair from Sept. 12 to Sept 15 to contribute to regional exports.BAİB Chairman Mustafa Satıcı said he participated in the fair, holding meetings with Russia's leading fresh fruit and vegetable importers and food suppliers. The fair served as a platform in which information was shared with respect to fresh fruit and vegetable products and fresh fruit and vegetable exporting companies in the region, as well as production and export potential. The event and meetings took place at a crucial point, as it is only a matter of time until Russia opens customs gates for Turkish fresh fruit and vegetables, which would be positive for Turkish producers. Participating Russian firms conveyed a list of fresh fruit and vegetables they want to import from the Western Mediterranean to BAİB representatives.Underlining that the Turkish public has closely followed the process of overcoming the crisis with Russia and accompanying developments, Satıcı said they expect the export of fresh fruit and vegetables to Russia to start soon. Russian food suppliers are willing to import a wide range of food products, including tomatoes, peppers, zucchinis, pomegranates, oranges and iceberg lettuce. BAİB conveyed the list of demands to the association's members on its website.
