A retirement plan for Turkish housewives married for 25 years

Niyazi Nefi Kara, a Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy from Antalya, has proposed a bill to Parliament to enable housewives with no insurance to retire. If the bill passes, it will affect women who have been married for at least 25 years.Kara proposed the bill as an amendment to the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, showing some 15 million housewives as justification. The justification states: "This bill will pave the way for women in low-income households, who have no superannuation as they cannot afford to pay premiums and women who were on the social security system as they had superannuation for a while but are currently housewives and have no connection to the superannuation and are unable to afford to pay the premiums, to receive old-age salary."According to the proposal, women who have no affiliation with the Social Security Institution (SGK), who have been married for 25 years and are in no way eligible for a monthly salary or income, will be entitled to a pension, on condition of paying or borrowing the amounts to be calculated within the limits of earnings on the basis of the age limit and the number of days that premiums were paid in accordance with the law.
