Japan's Hitachi to make Turkey regional hub


Japanese tech giant Hitachi Ltd. has announced that Turkey will become the operational hub for its healthcare business in Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Hitachi recently acquired a 75 percent of share of Kurt&Kurt (Kurt & Kurt İthalat İhracat ve Mümessillik Anonim Şirketi). The agreement will help Hitachi expand its global healthcare business and provide total solutions, by strengthening operation services to hospitals, imaging centers and so on.

Masaya Watanabe, vice president, executive officer and CEO of Hitachi's Healthcare Business Unit, said they were pleased with the acquisition of Kurt&Kurt, and added that the company was following up onpublic and private sector collaboration projects in Turkey, to make a contribution to and serve the Turkish society.

With its latest investments in Turkey, Hitachi Healthcare Turkey will become the company's regional hub, Watanebe noted.

Drawing attention to Turkey's strategic and geographic importance for Europe, Middle East and Central Asia, Watanabe said: "We are seeing that Turkey is developing constantly. We wish to contribute to this development."

In response to a question regarding further investment plans, Watanabe said, "Hitachi's negotiations with the Turkish government continues, and the company will also sustain its investments here."

"We are not operating in Turkey solely to provide equipment. We are here with our investments and skills."

Murat Balkan, CEO of Hitachi Healthcare Turkey, underlined that Hitachi was the first company to use an ultrasound system, and said:"Our long-term collaboration with Hitachi enabled us to achieve significant milestones in enriching Turkey's radiology experiences. We are happy to witness Hitachi's continued confidence in Turkey's promising future."

Balkan said Hitachi's new subsidiary in Turkey will be positioned as the fifth strategic center in its global healthcare business. "Hitachi will expand the healthcare business with a total solutions utilizing digital technology to cater to all kinds of customer needs," he said.
