Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek will visit Moscow Tuesday to discuss lifting trade restrictions imposed by Russia.

Şimşek and his delegation, which according to information obtained by Anadolu Agency, also includes the Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekçi, will meet with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

The delegation will discuss the removal of restrictions on the import of Turkish fruit and vegetables. During the talks, the delegation will also bring up the employment limitations imposed on Turkish workers in various sectors, especially those in the construction business.

The aim of the meeting is to revert to the former practices in the issuance of visas and to express demands for lifting restrictions on land route access to the Russian authorities.

Russia had imposed economic sanctions, including the suspension of visa-free travel, on Turkey at the start of last year. However, as Şimşek has stressed before, Turkey is able to compensate larger parts of the losses in trade with Russia by supplying to other markets.

This month, a Russian report issued by the Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) conceded that Russian consumers have been hit hard by the existing restrictions and limitations.
