Mosques to host schools for Syrian children in Istanbul


Turkey's Yeni Şafak daily reported that the outbuildings of Istanbul's mosques will be allocated as schools for Syrian children. Several nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) for Syrian refugees signed a deal with Turkish authorities to use the outbuildings as schools. The first such site was a historical madrasah building in the courtyard of a mosque in the city's Fatih district. NGOs and Fatih municipality furnished the building to educate young Syrians. A total of 120 Syrian children are now enrolled at the school. Yeni Şafak reports that there are 15 schools exclusively for Syrian children in Istanbul attended by 2,000 children.The Syrian Education Association, which operates the school in Fatih and other districts, aims to increase the number of schools to 100.
