Dilek Livaneli, 33, who has been working as a teacher at Kumköy Elementary School in Samsun's Çarşamba district, was previously chosen among the best 50 teachers in the world by the Varkey GEMS Global Teacher Prize Committee – whose honorary chair is former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Livaneli continues to set an example in Turkey through the projects she initiates, such as inviting three volunteer teachers to Samsun to teach English to her students.Livaneli has been working at Kumköy Elementary School for the last six years and has gained a notable reputation after being chosen as one of the best teachers in the world. The devoted teacher, who replaced all the equipment in the school as well as improved its physical condition following her international success, was recognized as "The Change maker Teacher of the Year", by the National Education Ministry in 2012. She was also chosen as the "Extraordinary Woman of the Year" by the Turkish Exporters Assembly during İzmir Innovation Week, one of the four women who "raises Turkey" by the General Directorate of Turkcell and "The Changemaker Educator" by the Sabancı Foundation.Following her success and projects to improve the educational environment for her students, Livaneli was able to connect with volunteer teachers abroad as a part of the "This World Belongs to All of Us" protect. After months of correspondence, Russian native Olga Nazarova, French native Marie Matussiere and South Korean native Yunie Nam came to Samsun to teach English to Kumköy Elementary students. The international teachers, who are welcomed at a house of a different family in the village every day, will stay in Samsun and help students with their English until June 14.As the teachers are staying in the village, they are getting to know Turkish village life, Livaneli said. "I am very happy that this project has come to life. My aim is to help people see that we can love one another without discriminating against them because of their language, race or religion," she stressed. She said the atmosphere of the village totally changed after the arrival of the guest teachers. "While they are teaching English to our students, they are also learning Turkish from us," Livaneli said, adding the project will also help to increase Turkey's recognition abroad.Nazarova said this is her first visit to Turkey and expressed her happiness to be part of Livaneli's project. Nam said that the students of Kumköy Elementary have great potential and the Turkish people are very warm-hearted. Matussiere also expressed her happiness to teach at Kumköy.
