Turkish university begins building medical services academy in Sudan

The Medical Sciences University in Istanbul has begun a project to build a medical sciences institute and a medical services academy in the Sudanese city of Nyala.

The project was promised by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to the country in December. Along these lines, a Sudanese delegation led by Higher Education Deputy Minister Professor Azhari Omar Abdelbagi arrived in Turkey yesterday.

Medical Sciences University Rector Professor Cevdet Erdöl explained that their preparations for building the academy and the institute had begun, saying, "The Cabinet and the Higher Education Board (YÖK) have approved it. We are waiting for the Sudanese government to approve the project and assign an area."

Meanwhile, Abdelbagi underlined the importance of the centuries-old relations between the two people, adding that the approval for the project and the area would soon be completed.
