CHP falls further behind AK Party, survey shows
With only months left for the national election, the latest poll conducted by Politics research company said the ruling AK Party would garner 45.40 percent of the vote while the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) would receive 21.27 percent and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) would get 14.20 percent of votes. Based on the poll, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) would only take 8.7 percent. The poll indicates that the difference between the AK Party and main opposition votes has never been so distinct. According to the poll, the AK Party's voting rate outdid the CHP's by twofold. The poll stated that, compared to the 2011 national election, the voting rate of the MHP and HDP is increasing while the CHP lost 5 percent of its votes. The survey asserted that the reason behind the increase in the HDP's vote is its determination in the reconciliation process, while the reason behind the drop in the CHP's voting rate is the new party established by the CHP's resigned member Emine Ülker Tarhan in addition to the party's alliance with the Gülen Movement – which infiltrated the police and judiciary in an endeavor to topple the government. The poll indicated that what the nation needed in the 2015 national election is not a new ruling party, but a strong opposition party. While the election heat started to flare up across the country, the AK Party's election strategy is becoming clearer by the day. According to the election schedule, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu will give a start to the election rallies in March following the recess of the Turkish Parliament. The election committee chaired by AK Party Vice Chairman Beşir Atalay will detect voter profile in every city of the country. The goal of the AK Party is to receive the constitutional majority to pass into the presidential system. The election committee will also monitor opposition parties' election operations. The committee will evaluate the CHP, MHP and HDP election rallies and inform the prime minister over the issues that he should touch upon in his election rallies, which are expected to be held in 81 cities of the country.
