The pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairperson Figen Yüksekdağ has dismissed claims that the party would form a coalition with the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP). Speaking at an election rally in the Northwestern Turkish city of Çorlu, Yüksekdağ said "If you ask the ruling party we are planning to form a coalition with the CHP, but if you ask the opposition we are planning to form a coalition with the AK Party." She added that the HDP will continue to proceed as an independent political party. Yüksekdağ has also criticized the 1980 coup led by late Chief of Staff Kenan Evren, who passed away on Saturday. She said that Evren left the world without accounting for his crimes, while HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has announced that nobody from the HDP will be attending Evren's funeral. According to recent election poll results, the HDP is expected to receive 9.15 percent of the votes, a figure below the 10 percent election threshold necessary to secure representation in the Turkish Parliament.
