Fate of AK Party-Felicity Party alliance in snap elections to be decided within a week

As rumors of a possible alliance between the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Felicity Party (SP) in the Nov. 1 parliamentary elections continues to be discussed, political sources in Ankara have reported that the meetings have gained momentum and that the decision is to be announced in the upcoming weeks. In regards to the possible alliance, the SP chairman Mustafa Kamalak said they will evaluate all possibilities and that they will not say "no" to parties that are looking for solutions to the country's problems. Sources also indicate that the AK Party will not seek an alliance with the Grand Unity Party (BBP) and that if the alliance with the SP succeeds then deputies from the SP will be nominated from cities such as Istanbul, Konya, Kayseri and Samsun.Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu previously said that the AK party would evaluate proposals and hold meetings regarding an alliance with the SP; in this regard, the party is continuing its analyses for the upcoming elections. Recent analyses obtained by the AK Party indicate that if the party had aligned with the SP during the June 7 general elections, the AK Party would have gained seven additional deputies from a number of regions, including Bayburt, Kocaeli and Van. Though it has been reported that the SP is insisting on nominating 20 deputies from its party, sources have said that the AK Party is in favor of nominating six to seven deputies from the SP in the Nov. 1 elections. Additionally, a source from the AK Party said, "Though the alliance may create synergy, whether favorable or unfavorable, it may also come with a cost."

Political circles in Ankara also reported that Fatih Erbakan, the son of former Prime Minister and SP founder Necmettin Erbakan, would run as a candidate for the AK Party in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Erbakan, who previously parted ways with the SP, was also reportedly sent a deputy candidacy proposal to the AK Party before the June 7 general elections.
