Opposition CHP calls on party's provincial organizations to prepare for possible snap election


The main opposition, Republican People's Party (CHP) is looking ahead to new strategies in the case of a possible snap election with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu kick-starting election preparations at the party's provincial heads meeting in Kahramanmaraş on Friday, Sept. 23.CHP Chairman Kılıçdaroğlu is also expected to meet Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım this week.According to local reports, the CHP is to go door-to-door in efforts to communicate with its electorate in person and choose "ballot observers" for a possible election. With Parliament's Constitutional Committee working on several changes that include revising the dates of all upcoming elections where municipal elections will very likely be held in October 2018 and the reappointment of 28 municipalities under statutory decrees, sources close to the CHP report that the party administration has increased its expectations of a snap election.While the CHP administration aims to alter the current election strategy, Kılıçdaroğlu ordered the party's provincial organization heads to "be ready for elections." Sources close to the party indicate that the CHP administration also began discussions on its possible candidates and how to determine those names. Reportedly, the party is deciding whether to conduct public opinion research or choose candidates in accordance with the CHP chairman's decisions. The main opposition party's roadmap toward possible snap elections will also be addressed at the upcoming meeting of provincial heads that is reported to be held for two days in Kahramanmaraş with 81 CHP provincial heads in attendance. In addition, CHP members at the meeting will address its long-discussed "set-up model around ballot." According to the model, the CHP will place at least two representatives at election boxes, and those representatives will also be responsible for all election set-ups in the area.
