CHP deputy confuses Supreme Court member with YSK head

Deputy Head of the Supreme Court Seyit Çandar was the target of a rant during a state program after opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) Artvin deputy Uğur Bayraktutan confused him with the Supreme Election Board (YSK) head, Sadi Güven.

The deputy head of the Supreme Court and the CHP deputy were in Parliament, which had gathered on April 23 to mark National Sovereignty and Children's Day. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other political figures were also present at the event.

At one point in the program, CHP deputy Bayraktutan started yelling at Seyit Çandar, who was seated near President Erdoğan, and said, "The YSK head! Get out. Get out of Parliament."

The deputy's mistake turned into comic relief and many present at the event had a good laugh. Bayraktutan later admitted that he had mistaken Seyit Çandar for YSK head Sadi Güven.

The CHP has been critical of the YSK's decision to count unstamped ballots in the April 16 referendum and has challenged the results.

CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu also slammed the decision. However, he later said that though he respected the nation's will, the decision on unstamped ballots overshadowed the results.

Over the weekend, the YSK rejected the CHP's appeal, saying there was not enough evidence to call for an annulment of the referendum results.
