President Erdoğan has urged AK Party deputies and the Cabinet to intensify efforts to maintain the party's attractiveness for voters called on them to win the hearts and minds in the run-up to the 2019 elections

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday gathered Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies and ministers at party headquarters and called for more intensive efforts to win the hearts and minds of voters in the run-up to the 2019 elections.

Erdoğan reportedly told party members that everyone should focus on listening to the problems that people have and conducting field work as Parliament is set to go on holiday in the upcoming days.

"If there is anyone who is tired, they should leave his place to another friend. I will continue to be with my people. 2019 should be a turning point, about harmony and respect," Erdoğan said.

The president has said for months that there are some figures within the party and local administrations that have been unwilling to carry out effective campaigns out of tiredness. He told these AK Party deputies to stand aside "if they are tired."

Speaking to journalists regarding the extraordinary meeting, AK Party Deputy Chairman Mahir Ünal said the president wanted to discuss with deputies and ministers about what can be done in their respective election districts since Parliament is set to go on holiday.

According to reports, the AK Party's much-debated 180-day development plan was also discussed during the meeting. The AK Party government is to focus on its 180-day plan after a long-awaited reshuffling of the Cabinet announced by Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım last week. The AK Party roadmap will reportedly include new projects and reforms in the areas of construction, transportation, energy, labor, health and education as well as others.

The projects that will be considered on a prioritized basis include, "Projects that are important for citizens that are likely to be realized in a short time and will bring immediate relief to society." In other words, the action plan will reportedly touch the lives of average citizens with every article, from beginning to end, while projects that will bring immediate results or comprehensive change will be considered.

The 180-day plan is seen as the first task for the new Cabinet and the AK Party. The president is highly likely to determine the next Cabinet if he wins the 2019 presidential election.

The ruling party has entered a new era following Erdoğan's return as party leader in late May. After the constitutional changes approved in the April 16 referendum, which allowed Erdoğan to re-establish his ties to the AK Party, the party held an emergency convention on May 21.

Erdoğan is reported to have plans to gather all local administrations and AK Party authorities from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8 in Afyonkarahisar province. He is expected to convey the message to all local AK Party branches and administrations that they must address every section of society and touch them closely.

Local administrators and party officials were criticized in the run-up to the April 16 referendum for their lack of enthusiasm and dynamism. Erdoğan previously said he was willing to change some figures in rural AK Party branches that have shown signs of tiring and are unraveling with others who are more passionate and enthusiastic about the new term.

"Our fellow friends in successful branches will, of course, continue their duties, but I guess you will also agree that a comprehensive change is needed in our local administrations," Erdoğan said on July 1, sending a clear message to party members.
