YSK announces snap election schedule


Turkey's Supreme Election Board (YSK) on Thursday released the election schedule for snap polls, setting date for parties to announce presidential candidates as May 4-9.

The YSK also set the deadline for parties to submit lawmaker candidate lists as May 21, 2018, while the date for setting up alliances between parties was announced as May 6, 2018.

YSK announced that AK Party, MHP, CHP, IYI Party, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Independent Turkey Party (BTP), Great Union Party (BBP), Democrat Party (DP), Vatan Party (VP) and Felicity Party (SP) will be eligible to take part in the upcoming election.

Erdoğan announced that Turkey will head to presidential and parliamentary elections on June 24, following a surprise call from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for snap elections. Erdoğan's announcement was made at a news conference after a half-an-hour meeting with Bahçeli.
