Niğde to be center for solar power production

Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık said cabinet approval is awaited for the Niğde Boron Energy Specialization Industrial Zone that will be established on a 2,539 hectare area in the city of Niğde's Bor district.Niğde is one of the best cities in terms of sufficient solar power production with many sunny, clear days.In a written statement from the Niğde Provincial Governorship to the ministry in March, they said the city is situated in an infertile and weak region with regard to energy resources. As a result, the governorship requested the industrial zone be built in Bor. To produce electricity from solar panels, consultation was sought from the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry. A survey was conducted for the location in July and the final decision was given, Işık said.He added that the request was submitted to the Industrial Zones Coordination Council. "The submission of the necessary studies for the establishment of the Niğde Boron Specialization Industrial Zone in the district of Bor's Badak and Seslikaya villages as well as Tozlukaya, Karataşlı, Çekirge Yurdu and Eski Badak regions to the cabinet was approved by unanimous vote," Işık said. The project was also submitted to the Prime Ministry for consideration.
