Tahir Akyürek, the mayr for central Anatolian Konya province, announced that an electricity production plant run by the municipality, which burns methane gas produced by garbage, consists of four units and is capable of producing enough electricity to power 26,000 households.Akyürek told the press it is important for both the province of Konya, and also Turkey in general, to produce electricity from methane gas. The Konya plant is capable of producing 5.6 megawatts per hour. Furthermore, 2,850 cubic meters of waste is burnt every hour and transformed into electricity. In 2015, the plant produced 43,232,243 kilowatts per hour of electricity, and heat generated by the generators is used in the greenhouse via heat exchangers.Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to use renewable energy resources and work on more methods for environmental protection. The electricity production takes place at the solid waste landfill site.
